Eaten by Zombies is a deck building game by Mayday Games and as the name suggests zombies are coming to get you and turn you into the living dead! Each player must work together with other survivors to escape the horde of zombies to be the last one standing or more likely hiding!
Each turn players must leave their safe-house and scavenge for Swag (these are cards that will help you survive), where there will be a zombie awaiting you. Here you have the choice to fight or flee depending on the cards you have to best equip you for either of these actions. There are various cards to help you fight or flee – shotguns, ammo, crowbar, binoculars, fire on a stick, grandma pantry, deadeye etc. Each time you successfully survive a zombie you can then acquire more cards. Any cards you play go to your own discard pile including zombies you have killed. Zombies that are successfully fled go into the Zombie discarded pile. 
If you fail to kill or flee a zombie you will have been wounded and in doing so lose some of your cards, weakening your selection for next time around. Once you’ve run out of cards you will no longer be able to survive your wounds and in turn you will become a zombie – joining the living dead! And just like in the zombies movies, it will become your mission to kill the other players and turn them in to zombies as well. This certainly keeps the game interesting with an alternative way to still win!
Over time the zombies become tougher to face as you will be taking cards from your discarded pile that has zombie cards in them. Thus weakening your hand of cards, although you could play them on another player’s turn when they’re facing a zombie. However this leads you into a dilemma as this might over weaken them and help them along the way to becoming a zombie. Then making your life even more difficult as there becomes fewer players to work with and more zombies to survive! Some tough decisions will need to be made in order to survive.
Players can win by being:
- The last one standing!
- If the entire zombie deck becomes depleted then all remaining players that are still alive win
- If a player ends up with 6 zombie cards then the zombie players win as any remaining alive players will have gone insane!
This a challenging game that will draw upon your inner strength and desire to survive whilst also fighting against a sense of hopelessness as the game becomes tougher and tougher with more and more zombies to face – enough to make you have nightmares of the living dead! As well as drawing upon your ability to be able to co-operate with other players whilst also competing against them. Definitely one for zombie film fans, where you can play with 2 to 4 players, ages 13 upwards, and each game takes about 20mins per player.
